James Conner of Haywood County NC & Elizabeth Finnley, Knoxville, TN

Journal by lpetty29322

I am searching for information on James Conner/Connor from Haywood County NC. He married Elizabeth Finley/Finnley/Findley from Knoxville, TN. They had a daughter named: Marthia Jane Conner, she eventually married George Strother Messer of Haywood County NC around 1906. On 1910 census of Polk County NC, town of Saluda, he is listed with Martha, wife (Mattie) and grandson. I cannot find any info on James or Elizabeth. Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi Liz,
I have been trying to get intouch with you. I am George Strother Messer's gggrandaughter. I am connected with his first wife Matilda Franklin. You e-mailed me thru another genealogy site and I tried to get back intouch, but I geuss it didn't go thru. Anyway, I have tons of info on George and his children. I would love to share all with you.And I would like your info on Martha and any children they had. You know he married Matilda twice. He never married a woman named Celia Williams, but they did have a child that I believed his uncle Fed Messer raised.E-mail me at apanther_stalks@yahoo.com
I work on your James and Elizabeth for you.
Thanks Tammy

Tammy,
Sorry I did not get the other email. I am so delighted to find someone that I can share info with. Martha he married around 1906, they are on the 1910 census for Polk County, Saluda township. but my 1920 census it says she is a widow and she is living with an older couple. They did not have children, since George was on up in years by the time he married her. I have searched endlessly for his death, cannot validate, saw where someone says 1916, but don't think this is true. Will try to go to local county seat and check there. I did not know he married Matilda two times. Tell me, I am curious, I noticed that she is listed in Cocke County TN on I think it was the 1900 cenus and it says she is widowed, is that because she had married someone else? Do you have any pics? I found the one of Fed Messer on the Haywood County NC Geneaological site. I think it was made in early 1900's. Are you in NC or TN? I was in TN and NC week before last doing some research. I actually live in Landrum, SC almost on the NC/SC line in the upstate. We are near I-26 Hwy and Tryon, NC. I am so thrilled you finally got me. Thanks and I cannot wait to hear all that you can tell me. Thanks, Liz My eamil is small L (lpetty29322@yahoo.com)
