... On New Year's Morning a Mangatainoka village settLer named James Henry Chapman hanged himself in his cowshed. He went to bed on Friday night in good spirits. His wife did not hear him get up, When found he was dressed as if for work. He was 40 years of age, and leaves a wife and six children. He was insured in the Government office for ?200 (Jan 2013 equivalent of $35,575)
An inquest was held on Saturday night. There is no evidence to show the cause for the rash act. A verdict of found hanged was returned
