1875 ? Death of James Owen in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. (fact)
1875 February 15 Burial of James Owen at Sale, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. (ref-sale cemetry online search)

(note- No death cert found in Gippsland Times. Only the remains of an unidentified prospector at Boggy Steam at Bairnsdale was recorded in the death notices of the Gippsland Times, on the same day as the burial).( A lead would be to look at any coroners reports, as the man was wearing new boots and clothing)

DEATH.

Name: James OWENS.
Born: England.
Died: 1875 Victoria.
Age: 40 years.
Parents: Not recorded.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Reg. #4334.

Nothing located in the Inquest Index for James.
His death certificate may name his wife and children if known by the informant.

Thanks very much! Every bit helps.

(I had him as 51 and born in 1824 England, as told to me from a family member).

Hi, I just bought the Death Printout. He died on 14 February, 1875 at the Sale Hospital, Gippsland, VIC of ossification of the heart valves and hydropericardium, aged 40.

It reads hydropericardium unknown, so just ossification of the heart valves.

Well done.
Certificates certainly saves research time when in doubt.

I expect the death certificate named his wife and children to confirm this is the correct James.

This would indicate the remains of the prospector located at Boggy Steam was not him.

Cheers.

Thanks. James Owen was listed as a labourer and was examined by Dr. Reid on 13 February, suggesting he died on the 13th and his death was recorded on the 14th. The death cert doesn't list any wife, parents or children. I can send a pdf file to you by email if you wish. Just send me your email address. So the prospector at Boggy Steam wasn't him.

Do you have any more information about birth, nationality, arrival of James Owen or his parents, marriage, etc. Anything at all would be great. I have his children's information from a long time genealogist who lives in Australia, who I'll be visiting in January 2018. Thanks :)
