Sion Freebody, known as Simon.
Sion was a twin brother to Sarah FREEBODY. On 25 May 1787, aged twenty years, he stole a lamb carcass
from Richard Elland's slaughterhouse at Enfield, on the northern outskirt of London. He took the carcass to
Kingsland Road Shoreditch and sold it there to Margaret Smith, a butcher's wife at, for thirteen shillings. He
was tried at the Old Bailey Middlesex Quarter Sessions commencing 11 July 1787, convicted and sentenced
to seven years transportation to Australia. He was held at Newgate Prison, then on the Thames hulk
Stanislaus. He was transported on the Second Fleet convict ship Surprize and arrived in Sydney on 26 June
1790. In NSW he became known as ?Simon? Freebody. After receiving his Ticket-of-Leave, he was granted
30 Acres of land on the Hawkesbury River near Windsor in 1794. In 1799 he was charged along with four
other men with the murder of two aboriginal boys. The killing was in reprisal for the murder of two white
settlers, by members of the tribe to which the two boys belonged. Although found guilty the men were
pardoned. Throughout much of his life Simon was beset by financial problems Simon was beset by financial
problems mainly due to serious flooding of the Hawkesbury.

Mary was tried at Guildhall in Yorkshire on the 19th. March 1792 and charged with Grand Larceny fror
allegedly stealing twenty seven yards of printed calico from James Robson, a draper. She was found guilty
and sentenced to transportation forseven years.
She was held at Ousebridge Goal for four months and then transported on the convict ship "Royal Admiral"
that left England on 30th May 1792 and arrived Sydney Town on 7th October 1792.

Mary was assigned as a domestic servant to Sion "Simon" Freebody and entered into a common law marriage
with him and bore 7 children.

Simon Freebody arrived at Windsor NSW 1798 and died in 1878 at Buckleys Crossing, Bolario.
Simon Freebody came to Manaro with his wife & family. His wife Susannah Miles daughter of Edward Miles
a Convict on the Scarborough, ship of the First Fleet in 1788. His wife Susannah Smith also a Convict
arrived on the Glatton. Simon's wife, Susannah?s sister Martha married William Bridle. Simon & Susannah
had a family of 11, two died as Infants.
Simon had the SEYMORE INN which was burnt to down in June 1864 and a gold digger lost his life in the
fire.
Son Edward 1st came to Monaro with his Uncle (John Freebody). He made several Trips to Sydney for
supplies.
When the Kiandra gold boom was at its highest he visited the diggings taking Victoria going through the

Snowy Mountains with his brother Robert, where perhaps no white man had gone before. They made many
trips back and forwards to the diggings with pack horse.
Edward's son Jack (Blacks Creek) had the stagecoach run Cooma ? Adaminaby ? Kiandra a skilled handler
of the reins and whip.
The site chosen for the new town at Adaminaby in 1956 was partly on the Freebody Property Bolaro View
and partly on Windradeen belonging to the Lockers.

I found your postings. I have been away for a few years and just getting back into it I have gone back to Thomas 1585 - 1657 married Ann Weeks I only have 1 child I followed it can't find Thomas's parents have looked & Looked. I have been doing Freebodys for about 20 years getting back into England now. My husband is from Sion Freebody - Then Robert then Roland -then Frederick now Frederick who is my husband who is 80 years would like to get in touch with you.
