I am grateful for your John Hyde notes. I am a descendant of Margaret Hyde and Johann Wilhelm Zippel. I am interested to know that Catherine (O'Callaghan) Hyde was an immigrant and was buried in Mount Gambier. I was previously unaware of William Hyde, Catherine Hyde, Mary Hyde and Elizabeth Hyde.
I wonder about the parentage of William Hyde. You indicate that he was only 14 years younger than his mother. Could he have been the offspring of an earlier marriage?
My ancestor Margaret Hyde died in 1918 in Hamilton VIC (death registration 9081).
Hezekiah Ceears was presumed within my father's family to be an American. Perhaps he came to Australia via USA. He was apparently well regarded by the wider family.
Thank you for your information.

Hi Ted. Yes, I have information on Margaret and JW Zippel. Hezekiah Ceears (in our family) is known to have traded/lived in Holland. My husband came from Holland and he seems to think that Ceears is a dutch name. Hezekiah was in WA before he came to SA and married Ellen Hyde. I still can't find much on John Hyde (the father). Seems he died in Ireland and then the family came out to SA in dribs and drabs. Julie
I see the Mount Gambier Cemetery record re death of Catherine (O'Callaghan) Hyde shows her age as 70, inferring d.o.b. abt 1810, which is more plausible than 1814, given the age of her eldest son, William (b. abt 1828)
Ted
Yes Ted I agree. It is not impossible to have children at 14, but most probably unlikely! I have when all of the family came out here. Elizabeth is a mystery as I can't find where she ended up. She may have gone out of state due to the family going to Dimboola etc. I was pretty pleased to find that Catherine was buried in the family plot and what age she was as it sure helped to put the picture together. Julie
I notice Elizabeth Hyde was buried at Lake Terrace, died 12 Feb 1923 age 82. She is likely to be our person.
Ted
Hi Ted. Would love to tell you that that is her, but it isn't! Elizabeth Hyde who died on 11th February, 1923 is William Hyde's wife (nee Elizabeth Mangan/Mannion). William was the eldest child of Catherine & John Hyde. William and Elizabeth were married before coming out to Australia. The Hydes seemed to have been from the village of Killavullen, County Cork, Ireland. William and Elizabeth came to Port Adelaide in 1863 on the "Rockliffe". In the same year they landed in POrt MacDonnell, after coming from Port Adelaide in the ship "Kangaroo".
Thank you. You are no doubt correct re Elizabeth Hyde. The information re Killavullan is most interesting.
Ted
We have Elizabeth Hyde married Robert Charles Pattison 1858 in Victoria. Their child Elizabeth Selina Pattison was born 1858 in Ballarat and died 1860 aged 17 months. There do not seem to be any other Victorian records of these peolple. The name Selina is reminiscent of the Allendale people (or was it Selma?)
Dear Ted. Could be our Elizabeth Hyde, who is missing from SA. Selina was a family name so could be her. Can you track down a death certificate for her? That might give us the info about where she was born and what states she lived in. Ellen Hyde m. Hezekiah Ceears (her sister) went to live in Dimboola and Wimmera district and some of the other family went there too, so it could make sense that she went there. Good work.
