John Puckey Born St Germans Cornwall 1819

According to John Puckey's second marriage certificate,(to Eliza Pierce) he was a widower and had 2 children who died in 1851. I am presuming this occurred in Cornwall.
I have numerous information on his life here in Australia, but can not find information about when he left Cornwall, his first marriage, what did his wife and 2 children die of, how old were they?
