John "Young Tassel" Watts 1760-1840
I have been researching my family tree and found that my line goes back to John "Young Tassel" Watts who was half Cherokee and became the Chief of the tribe after his uncle Dragging Canoe died. As Dragging Canoe's last request was John "Young Tassel" Watts to be his succeeding Chief.
I have found a lot of different lines with his line going in different directions but I am not sure of just which way is the correct line to follow.
One line goes like this:
Father:
John Watts I
Birth 1728 in Straban, York County, Pennsylvania
Death 1771 in Old Cherokee County, Alabama
Mother:
Wurteah Corn Tassel
Birth 1736 in Tasagi Town, Crockett County, Tennessee
Death 15 Nov 1845 in Missouri
John "Young Tassel" Watts
Birth 1760 in Straban, York, Pennsylvania, United States
Death 12 Aug 1840 in Attalla, Etowah, Alabama, United States
But I am stuck on John Watts I. The line goes nuts through different family trees and it is hard to track down the correct line. One line says John Watts I father is
Thomas Watts
Unsure about his info or who he married.
Another line goes like this:
John Watts I
Father: John Francis Old Watts
Birth 1701 in Bowling Green, Caroline, Virginia, United States
Death 23 Sep 1754 in Craven, South Carolina, United States
Mother: Ann Wind Clan McPherson
Birth 1709 in Bowling Green, Caroline, Virginia, United States
Death 1756 in Craven, South Carolina, United States
Then another line has someone else as John "Young Tassel" Watts father listed like this:
Old Tassel George Watts
Birth 1730 in Bowling Green, Caroline, Virginia, United States
Death 1771 in Old, Cherokee, Alabama, United States
If anyone has any TRUE information on how this line is supposed to go please help me in making sure I have the correct line traced back in my family tree.
