Hi Allycat,
Thomas Garfoot & Isabella arrived in Sydney, Australia about 1879
They also had a son Charles William Garfoot born 1862 who emigrated with them at the age of about 17. Joseph Joshua would have been about 20 so do not know if he was travelling with them or not

Something of interest:
During WWI, among the soldiers who enlisted in the Maitland District of the Hunter Valley, NSW was:
Charles Henry Ernest GALE, born in Taree, was living in Rutherford
Harold Sylvester GARFOOT, born in Newcastle, was living in Rutherford

There appears to have been TWO Garfoot in New Zealand.
Herbert Garfoot born 1877, not in New Zealand - died aged 83 in 1960 in New Zealand
and his wife
Alice Maud Garfoot born 1881, not in New Zealand - died aged 89 in 1970 in New Zealand

They were mining in Blackball, West Coast, New Zealand in 1917
- arrival date into New Zealand not known
- when they were working in Blackball they would have been in their late 30s

There are no 'Garfoot' recorded to have been born or married in New Zealand since 1840 to present time.
Henry and Alice have been the only recorded 'Garfoot' deaths in New Zealand from 1840 to present time

Harold Sylvester Garfoot married Leila May Baker (Shaw) 1920. They lived in Boolaroo till Leila died at the age of 28 in 1929 leaving three children, Joyce, Joseph, and Beryl. His second marriage was to Eliza Adey.
His mother's mother was Catherine Holohan (spelling was rather arbitrary as she could not read or write) an immigrant from Ireland.
Gertrude Phipps died in 1970.
Eveline Garfoot was born in 1891.
