Need INFO. about "Living Family Members"
How can we search/find information for FREE on "Living
Family Members" so I can add them to my "Family Tree"?
I don't know anything about my father or his side of
the family.I never knew them, never met them.Only know of
them from what my family members (my moms side) told me about them.I really need help.Everything on these sites
are all about people in the past. The sites like "people
search" all charge money/fees to get access on them.
You have to purchase them. There's alot of people
with the
same names.
I'm worried if I purchased anything it could be
for someone who may not be related to me at all
or not the person/people I was looking for.Does anyone
know of some Free sites to get this INFO.I would
Gratefully Appreciate it! Thank you!

Dear Jamie, Ok firstly generally there aren't websites out there with living people's information freely available to search. However, I have seen so much on the internet on living people that it is just mind boggling.
We all have to be very careful in this day and age to do all we can to protect our privacy and identity. You've heard of identity fraud before I assume?
When looking for living people, perhaps a suggestion would be to goto the genforums, in this instance you are looking for the PRIEST family, then goto PRIEST Family Genealogy Forum. Don't rush yourself. Have a read of what others have written to get the general 'gist' of what to write yourself. Try and create a hotmail email address that you will keep for all time, then register to post topics at the genforums. That way you will be automatically notified via your email whether someone has replied to your topic.
Also to give you some clues on how to research your family tree, read this website very carefully How to start your family history
* Step 1. Remember Your Ancestors.
* Step 2. Use Sources in Your Home.
* Step 3. Ask Relatives for Information.
* Step 4. Choose a family or Ancestor You Want to Learn More About.
* Step 5. See If Someone Else Has Already Found the Information.!!!!!
* Step 6. Search Records For Your Ancestor.
And make sure you read the modern miss manners guide to etiquette re posting messages on the internet.

PS Please edit this journal and replace SEARCHINGFORLIVINGPRIESTFAMILYMEMBERS with PRIEST. That way when you click on PRIEST you will see journals about this surname, other researchers and any links.

Thank you! Very Much!!! I'm not very good
at this at all.But I'm learning! Hopefully
I'll get better at this,It's all new to me.
( I don't even know much about computers
either,I'm learning on my own) I like your advice. I'm definately going to try hard
to follow your advice. You are really good at this!I keep forgetting to click draft and read first, then post. That's why alot of the surnames and posts aren't coming out right.Sorry about that! I appreciate the Help! I'll try to do
better on my etiquette posting too!

When I think back to starting my family tree when I was a teenager I wrote all my family tree out on A3 sizes of paper. Everything was written in lead pencil and then when it was confirmed as being correct, it was written over in biro.
If you have a look at those free website journals I've provided, there are lots of great freebies especially regarding this like printable family trees that you can hand-write the data in.
Then when you become more confident with your computer skills you can type the data in say at the tribalpages site.
With genealogy, we basically start with ourselves and work backwards. Picture yourself as the root of the tree and your parents, grandparents, great grandparents etc all branching outwards.
In my family, there are at least 4 people working on my CANTWELL genealogy...including myself. How's that?
Good luck.
Alison.
I looked at some of the sites you sent me.
I also saved them. They are very helpful.
Your right it is a good idea to start from writing it down.I was actually on the web searching for other stuff, when I stumbled
across ancestry/genealogy.( I was trying
to find my dad and family) I never really
thought about this other stuff before.
But I started to read about it and so
to me it seemed interesting so, I took
interest in it and wanted to know and
learn more. The more I read and
learned about it,the more I wanted to keep
at it. That's how I ended up here.To me
this is important.
No one else in my family is interested.
so, I'm doing this on my own. I just
didn't know where to start. Until you helped
me, to which I'm forever Grateful! It's
nice to hear you have other family working
on it too.Your the only one who has helped
me so far. Thanks! And Good Luck to you too!
