Journal by erikamorgan

I am looking for parents for Jonas ca 1755, I have found a couple William and Lydia Morgan of virginia late 1700s so that is also a posibility. Names seem very simular to the Sarah Morgan Boone family and there is a mythology of General Daniel Morgan but looking for proofs.

I WILLIAM MORGAN lived near Gooney Manor, these siblings came together from the Piedmont section up the WARNER River, across the saddle of the Massanutten Range into Shenandoah Co.

I am obviously related and have some of the information you have. Noah Morgan and Ina Nelson were my great-grandparents. Their children were Oscar Nelson Morgan (5 Feb 1892 - 31 jan 1970), Adlai Elberta Morgan (15 Dec 1893 - 23 Apr 1948), Warren R Morgan (15 Apr 1896 - 2 Feb 1986), Verdie Grace Morgan (1898 - 28 Sep 1922), Hubert Kenneth Morgan (5 Apr 1901 - 14 Jun 1969), Elva Enola Morgan (1903 - ), Noalena Morgan (2 Sep 1905 - 20 Jul 1985). I have Noah's parents as Willian Oscar Morgan (7 Feb 1839 - 23 Mar 1925) married to Tabitha Ann Warriner (5 Jan 1843 - 19 Jan 1927); grandparents as Jonas Morgan (12 Sep 1800 - 15 Jan 1893) married to Delilah Burge (5 Apr 1805 -8 Apr 1895); great grandparents as Daniel Morgan (1780) and Sarah DeVan (1780); gg grandparents as Jonas and Susanna, just as you have it. If you can trace back further than that, I would love to know it....

Thanks for the updates, this is what I was hoping for in part as it helps flesh out the people who make up our family. Once I have assimilated these dates I may wish to learn more about who your ancestors really were as people. I hope to be able to contact you at a latter date. Thanks again erika morgan

I'm trying to obtain information on my father's father with very sketchy information. My father was Fred Columbus Morgan, born in 1903, died 8/17/1958 in Talladega County, Alabama.
I think that my grandfather's name was John T.Morgan. I was told that he was a saxophone player, but I don't recall where. My grandmother's name was Ida Ophelia Willis (maiden name), but I don't know if they were married or not. I always thought that they had been, but I know that she married a Jones and had 5 more children.
I would so appreciate any information that anyone has on my grandfather.
Thanks.

Re: Ida Ophelia Willis:

This is my grandmother on my father's side. After Mr. Morgan, she was married to my grandfather, Charles Augustus Jones. Was your father, by any chance, my Aunt Mattie Morgan's brother-in-law? Didn't she have a daughter?

I actually remember when your father died. I remember going up there.

His brothers included my father, Melvin Emmett Jones, Willis Jones, Ernest Jones, Calvin Jones, one brother that passed away at a very young age whose name I cannot recall, and a sister, Mary Jones. My father and all his brothers (except Uncle Calvin) and Aunt Mary have passed on. Aunt Mary and Aunt Mattie were very tight friends, as I recall.

I just realized Mattie must be your mother, yes?

When JONAS MORGAN was born in 1755 in Virginia, his father, Thomas, was 52 and his mother, Ester, was 25. He married SUSANNAH HARDIN and they had seven sons and two daughters together between 1770 and 1792. He then married Delila Burge on September 9, 1822. He died in 1817 in Shenandoah, Virginia, at the age of 62.

Thomas Morgan was born in 1703 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the only child of his parents, Lewis Morgan (1678) and Elizabeth Hurst (1685). He married Lettice Evans and they had six children together. He then married Ester Taylor and they had 15 children together. He died on May 23, 1774, in Virginia, at the age of 71.

Hello Mike,
Since I wrote this inquiry we have found a court case in Virginia where our Jonas Morgan identifies his father as Gilbert Morgan Sr. in 1799 over an old debt from during the revolution right when Jonas and Susannah Hardin were married. Actually the recorded testimony of each of them in the case declares them as father and son, the father had guaranteed the debt that was for household stuff just before Jonas's marriage to Susannah. Further-more Jonas, Gilbert Jr, & Gilbert Sr. Morgan as well as a Zachariah North who becomes Jonas's son George Morgan's father-in-law through his marriage with Barbarah North are all serving on juries together and completing road projects together in Culpepper and Front Royal. Gilbert Morgan Sr. married a Margaret Cooksey Jan 30,1796 this Margaret is not Jonas and Gilbert Jr.''s. mother it is a later in life marriage. It could still be that this Thomas Morgan 1703 could be the Grandfather of Jonas? Jonas Morgan 1755's ydna is recorded, it might be useful if we had a proven descendant or this Thomas Morgan for comparison.

thank you erika morgan

Erika, Thank you for helping clear this relationship issue up regarding Thomsa Morgan being the father of Old Jonas Morgan Sr. We also found this same document. I wish we could find out who Jonas' parents were though. Do you really believe that Gilbert took on a second wife--Margaret Cooksey in 1796? If so, where did Margaret and Gilbert go? Where are they buried? I am still struggling with this. Please email back to monkeyswife96@gmail.com. I'm also on Facebook.
