Nathaniel John Tolliday and Mary Jane Richardson UPDATED December 6th 2007
Nathaniel John Tolliday was the 1st child born to Priscilla and William Tolliday of Victoria in 1863.
He is named after his grandfather Nathaniel who never made it to Australia as he drowned in England. But his widow Jane Curtis Tolliday (his grandmother) and her four children (who are his aunts and uncle and father) made the huge journey on the British Empire way back in 1854-55. His father William was the 4th child of Jane and Nathaniel and born in 1837 in England.
Nathaniel John is one of ten children- four sisters Christiana, Priscilla Martha, Sarah Elizabeth and Alice and five brothers William, John, George William, Frederick Numa and Alfred Barton.
He was born on 23/10/1863 and he worked for the SR & WSC (State Rivers and Water Supply Commission of Victoria.
He married Mary Jane Richardson in 1889 and they had five children.
Four sons John Alfred, Frederick Charles, Harold James,and William and one daughter Margaret Ada.
John Alfred born in 1892 married Clara Kerr they had two children Merle Esme born 1918 and Jack Douglas born 1924. Merle married Bertram Armstrong in 1940 and Jack married Lola Missen and they had 3 boys.After Lola died at a young age in 1971 he remarried a lady called Jean West in 1972. John passed away in 1961.
Frederick Charles born in 1897 married Florence and they had 2 sons Neville William and Russell Frederick. Neville married Faye Russell and they had 3 children. Russell married Margaret Leamon and they had 6 children. Frederick passed away in 1969.
Harold James married Frances Jarvie they had 3 children Edna Joyce, Francis Lloyd, Harold Keith. Edna married William Peters, Frank married Mavis Wilson and Harold married Freda Burns. Harold passed away in 1977.
William died at 4 months old in 1887.
Margaret Ada born in 1894 married George Goldsmith.
Nathaniel John died in 1922 at Ballarat. Mary Jane died 15 years later in 1937 also at Ballarat.
