I have Barnes's in my tree (Aus) Nellie Florence Barnes married to Herbert Owen, but some of the Barnes family seemed to have ended up in Ballarat and South Aus. Don't know if we have the same line, but you never know!

I used to know a Pam Barnes here in South Australia who didn't seem to be related to a Peter Barnes who now works in Brisbane. Peter Barnes' father was a Professor of Maths (I think) at Adelaide University. His mother's first name was very unusual = "Stuart". I don't know what her maiden name was! I thought these Barnes were originally from the UK (that is Peter's parents were from the UK) but I'm not sure- he was just a friend. Peter Barnes would now be in his late 50s - guess born around 1955. His parents were probably 30 or older when he was born- think he was an only child.
