I'm looking for any early information concerning my G.G Grandfather John Evans, he was born between 1817 to 1820 at Northam Devon. It's thought he was born 'out of wedlock!' but on his marriage certificate of 2nd June 1842 to Jane Cann Chubb at Sutcombe Devon, his father is named as Richard Evins a labourer. John's trade was always as Blacksmith mostly in the Sutcombe, Welcombe areas of Devon and Kilkhampton, Cornwall area. He died at Kilkhampton in 1884. I have been able to find out about him after his marriage through censuses etc., but if he shows up in your research, I should be glad to hear from you.

Twoshoes on 2011-09-09 18:15:30Hello Eileen, My third great grandfather was John Evans born in about 1821 in Northam, Devon I know very little about him. I don't know if this is the same person. He had six children Sarah, William,John,Thomas Benjamin and Mary. Sarah Evans married John Beer which leads to my family! I notice you have Beer in your research list!

chasjas on 2011-11-17 07:54:01John Evans was my wife's great great grandfather and Benjamin her great grandfather.We would be grateful for any info on John and his wife Jane and their families.Our current question concerns the reasons for Benjamin leaving his trade as a cordwainer in Kilkhampton and migrating around the time of John's death to south and west Wales where he played a significant role as a Baptist minister in the revival movement in 1905.John's children and their offspring seem to have carried on with blacksmithing in the Kilkhampton area, and also farming with marriages into the Parkyn and Manning families there.We live in Canada very close to Michigan where I see from eileen1973's Beer research a Beer descendant lived in 1930- which I'll try and follow up...Look forward to hearing from you...
