STOPPS in Australia
I am reasearching two great great uncles and their families who came to Australia as assisted migrants.
The first is Jesse STOPPS and his family - Jane his wife and his son William and daughter Elizabeth aged 4 and 2, who came to Port Phillip aboard the ship Lord William Bentinck in August 1844.
The second is Laucelot STOPPS who came on the ship Canton in late 1848 and arrived in Sydney.
I have no leads to go on yet but will be continuing my research and writing to many of the Stopps in Australia. I do know there are many Stopps in Tasmania, others in Erskinville and Gundegai.
I do know that Launcelot died in 1910 and was buried at Granville, but that's the limit of my research to date.
I would appreciate any information about these families.
