... Back to the BURGESS family ...
Ada Sarah BURGESS 1876-1958 probably came from a large family. Lately I have managed to find two sisters and her parents names.
Sibling Lillian BURGESS born 1875 NZ died 23 Jul 1958 NZ married unknown male NAGEL who it is known was killed in the railways. She then married Thomas COLEMAN and they had two children, Maisie and Inez. {no other details known}
Sibling Bertha BURGESS born {unknown} died {unknown} married unknown NAGEL who was the brother of Lillian's husband. {no other details known}.
The BURGESS children - their parents were Henry BURGESS and Mary Ann GILES. Henry BURGESS was born 1849 England and died 12 Jun 1917 NZ. Mary Ann GILES was born 1850 England died 16 Nov 1931 NZ. They were from Sevenoaks in Kent, England. I don't know where the couple are buried. But they came out to New Zealand aboard the ship 'Cartvale' in 1874.
Can someone lookup a marriage folio ref of 0982 in 1866 please for BURGESS and GILES?
Thanks,
Alison.

Hi there. I am just wondering where you got the information about Lilian BURGESS' birth. I have had trouble finding her records. Her first husband's name was Frederick. Also, could you please confirm your source for her marriage to Thomas COLEMAN? Thank you so much!
Dear 'baysnz' It's been some time since I researched that line but I can definitely say that the data was sourced from the NZ Genealogical Indexes that I had on cd-rom at the time, unfortunately my toddler cracked a CD in half so I can no longer do any more NZ lookups.
Thank you for replying so quickly! I appreciate your help.
My mother Alfreda Burgess was from Sevenoaks and her father was Alfred Burgess.
Hi I am Richard Castle and we are probably related. One of my family projects is the Tooth Family. My Great Grandfather X4 was a Henry Burgess his Daughter Annie Emily(or Emma) Burgess -1864-1929 -married a John Tooth at Sevenoaks. I have not pursued the Burgess line but my mother used to write to someone in New Zealand but I cannot remember who.
I can do a bit more work on the Burgess line and see what the link is.
I’m coming late to this thread, but my GGGrandmother was Ann Ashby (nee Burgess) who seems to have emigrated with her husband Thomas and brother Henry Burgess (who seems to have married Thomas Ashby/Giles’ sister Mary Ann).
I have Ann’s death record, which shows her parents as Richard and Sarah Burgess (nee Staples), she was born at SevenOaks, and died at Greatford in 1918.
For Thomas, his parents are reported as Thomas Giles and Mary Ashby (unmarried) and he died at Greatford.
Greatford seems to be non existent now, so I’m curious to find out more about this side of my family and where they may be buried.
Interesting, my GGrandmother Thomas and Anne’s daughter married a Neagle (descended from a British soldier, who ended his military service in Napier around 1860) and I see other Burgess family members married members of a Nagle family!
