There is a book 'The Moffats' written by the then Scottish Laird called 'Moffat of that Ilk'. I don't have the details by me right now, but it contains numerous Moffat family trees.

The author, who has now been succeeded by his daughter as Laird, maintained that all families, no matter the spelling, belong to the family originating in Dumfries, Scotland.
