Irene Matilda Phillips (nee Culhane) born 1908 Stawell Victoria Australia.

Irene is my great grandmother and disappeared in 1945. My grandfather James Frederick Phillips last saw her early 1945 before joining the army. When he return from the war, family members had spilt up his brother and sisters among themselves. His father Charles Frederick Phillips would only say she had left to live with her father Patrick Culhane in Melbourne.

I have discovered that she had a still born in late 1945 at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, but after that I am unable to find out what happened to her. I have checked birth, death and marriages in all states of Australia.

Hi Matthew, my grandmother Phyllis Joan Phillips was the daughter of Irene Matilda Culhane and Charles Frederick Phillips. She was from Ballarat, born in 1933 and died 2016 and said her mum disappeared. I've found a bit on ancestry dot com on her line (under Lynch-McVitty tree) but not much on Irene herself unfortunately.
