Descendants of Rev. Henry Dowling, Essex and Tasmania
Rev. Henry Dowling and his wife had a large family .Henry Jr. was the second mayor of Launceston, Tasmania. the next son, John Leonard was a farmer in that colony. Thomas moved to Port Phillip which became Victoria: he and his sons were sheep breeders and he was a member of the Legislative Council for over twenty years. Robert Dowling the youngest son was a painter/artist of note. One daughter, and her entire family, was drowned in the sinking of Dunbar outside Sydney Heads in 1857.
I am keen to find out more about other members of the family: I have written a thesis about Rev. Henry and Henry Jr. "Bridging the Gap: My Dowling Ancestors in Colonial Tasmania". (The University of Melbourne)
