This Hoffmire family originates in the Netherlands, came to America first to NY, occupation was running a fish market, sold it, then migrated to NJ. Samuel is a name common in the family which confused researchers as to who was father and son.

My greatgrandmothers maiden name was stouteagle. She passed away in 1996.I don't really know much about her mom I would have to ask my grandmother. So sorry, this is over two years old.....I do hope you are still out there! It seems we are unable to track this name beyond Pennsylvania. This is probably the State where your mother came from. There was a Mathias Stouteagle and we believe his brother was Peter. Both located in Bedford Co., PA. Peter was born (Off the cuff) in 1778. Was married in 1810.....but came to Ohio, and married my Grt grt Grandmother, Alice Hoffmire. People have sought this name thinking it was native American, but I am inclined to think it is not, and we have wasted time looking in the wrong places. I do have something on the Mathias line. Perhaps through that you can make some connections, and learn more of your heritage.
