The death of Mr Isaac Sykes, a former well-known resident of Masterton and secretary of the Masterton A and P Association in 1900-1902, occurred in Wellington on Sunday. Some years ago he left Masterton to reside in the city. The deceased was a brother of Mr F. R. Sykes, M.P.M and leaves a son, Mr I. G. Sykes, of Masterton

Orland Gorringe was born in Ore, a village of the urban area of the town and borough of Hastings in East Sussex, England. He emigrated with his parents and siblings into NSW on 26 Sep 1838 on the 'Palmyra'. He arrived in NZ in 1861

flodjod on 2013-08-02 01:58:50Data I have and its not substantiated is that he was born either 1832 or 1827 in Ore, Sussex, England, his father John born 1798 in Hurstpierpoint Sussex England and died Sep 15 1889 in NSW Australia, mother name Kitty born 1796 died unknown.

i have 3 siblings listed as Eliza dob 1821, William 1833, and Edward 1837, given the date spread between the children there may have been more than the 4.

Gorringe on 2015-07-23 01:20:13I am descended from John and Hetty/Hatty/Kitty Gorringe eldest son John b1820c who came to Aust per "Queen Victoria" July 1841. He married Maria Hack at Parramatta
Aug 1841. They had 1 daughter Ellen Eliza who was my gt/grandmother.
My question is: Why were John snr and Hetty on shipping records give their surname as Gorringe, when they married his name is John Gorringe NOAKES. Hettys surname was Catt. When my 2xdgt grandfather married his name was given as Gorringe alias NOAKES. On John (jnr) burial record he is recorded as John Nokes Gorringe. He was buried 27th January 1846 at Parramatta. My gt grandmother when her children were born always had her name as Ellen Eliza Gorringe Noakes, although Gorringe was spelt a number of different ways!I have details for Horace and William, but have not found anything on Elizabeth,or Edwin, who may become Edward.
Where do you fit into the Gorringe "picture"? Hopefully the family gaps can be solved

The only members I have yet to find are Elizabeth and Edwin. He may have been known as Edward.
John and Hetty arrived in Sydney per "Palmyra" 1838 with their 5 children. They then journeyed to
Belfast (Port Fairy). Orlando and Horace were butchers in Victoria.
I have death certificates for John d 1869, Hetty d 1859 and Horace d 1863.
Their eldest son John, my 2xgt grandfather came out per "Queen Victoria" 1841. I believe he was probably in an apprenticeship as a wheelwright and came out when completed. It is unfortunate that he died and was buried 27 January 1846 aged 27. His occupation was given as labourer. His name was registered as John Nokes Gorringe. The burial site is in Parramatta, with only a handful of headstones standing. A wall with those buried at this site includes his name. I have been to this site, having worked and lived in the area for 22 years. There are a number of Gorringe people who I have contacted over the years but with no family connection. Where do you live flodjob? I live in Port Macquarie.

I am doing some research on the New Zealand Gorringe and Fogden names.
As I understand it a Horrie Gorringe married a Lavinia (Dolly) Fogden and they had 3 children Erle, Ray and Olga who are my 2nd cousins. I know the history of Ray but am stumped on finding info on Erle and Olga.
