Patrick Reardon (Riordon) b. c.1807 Ireland
My first ancester to arrive in Australia on the Reardon side was Patrick Reardon.
According to Peter Mayberry on Irish Convicts to New South Wales 1791 to 1835, Patrick a Ploughman and native of Tipperary was convicted of Manslaughter in 1831. He arrived in Sydney aboard the Norfolk (3) in 1832.
Patrick married Bridget Egan on 24th June 1841. Bridget is said to have followed her fiance Patrick from Tipperary as a free settler.
Patrick and Bridgets marriage certificate states that the ceremony took place in Campbell Town and that the two were from Bong Bong.
The convict inventory of the Norfolk list another Reardon as having been imprisoned onboard. That is a John Reardon also a Poughman from Tipperary who was sentanced on the same day as Patrick, receiving a conviction for life. I have always wondered if the two were brothers and of what became of John upon reaching Sydney.

shoshana, good evening. I am very glad to find your entry. My maternal great grandfather was your Patrick Reardon. I was told in about 1988 that he and John were brothers but I have nothing in confirmation.
I am trying to find something on Patrick's forebears. I have read that the first Reardon, named something De Ousley was an Huegonot who went with Cromwell to Ireland as a mercenary, was rewarded with 100!, I think, acres about New Ross.
One of Patrick's sons was William, my mother's father. I have some information about his family, if you wish it.
My full name is William Reardon Dowsley, born 1930 in Cootamundra, NSW.
Hope something is of interest to you. My email is. billdowsley@gmail.com
Every good wish, Bill.
Hi to you both. I am equally glad to see this post. My great grandfather was Patrick Reardon born in 1851 and he married Bridget Collins in 1883.
William, my great grandfather Patrick was your grandfather's brother I believe. My grandmother Tess Reardon was Patrick's daughter and came from Rose Glen, Collector. My
The interesting thing for me is that Patrick Reardon came out as a convict on the same ship as my paternal great great grandfather John Mooney who settled on the Monaro. I have a lot of information on John Mooney's trial but nothing on Patrick Reardon. So I would love to know more.
It would be great to touch base.
Hi WRAD & susanwilson
Nothing is known of the circumstances surrounding Patrick trial, thus far. It has always been my intention to view archived newspapers in Tipperary when I get there post children. I think that is the one way to prove definitively if there is a connection between John and Patrick. John seems to disappear. I know others have tried to find out more about him. I believe that he may have died young in Oz. I have discussed with Bill previously that I do not believe the Reardons were Huegonot as they were Catholic. I do not think that the family would be so foolish enough to change religions from the oppressor to the oppressed :) Reardon is also O'Riordan which is an Irish name
