Finding the Right Holloways

Journal by jackiekaisk

Searching my family tree has become my passion. I almost forgot to stop and appreciate the people I have found. We are a family rich in history. One family trait is that the Holloways are a closed mouth group. No one much knows much about any one else. My Grandfather spent his life working the coal mines of southwest Virginia. His father too. Chambers died after a mining accident in Big Stone Gap. Chambers father Peter is elusive character. He shot and killed a black man in Old Butler Tenn. He ran off abandoniing his wife and children. I'm told he came back to see Chambers with a pillowcase full of gold. He was trying to make amends with his son. Chambers wasn't having anything to do with his Dad and sent him on his way. I can find no other records regarding Peter. Peter's father Linville was born and raised in Wilkes county North Carolina. He was a farmer. Linville married a woman named Elizabeth Ellen Brookshire. She was known as Betsy. Family lore is that Betsy is the granddaughter of an Indian Chief...Cook Brookshire. I can find no proof of that.
