Looking for VAUTIN, VUATIN, VUATIEN or similar worldwide
I am researching James Theodore VUATIN/VUATIEN (later VAUTIN) and his wife Mary (nee CHARLTON of Kent). This man was the only son of Glaude/Claude VUATIEN (d. before 1789 at Ubbeston in Suffolk, England) who left a Will written in 1782 and proved 1789.
His widow Ann (nee OVERLOVE of St Katherine Cree Church), remarried William WEALE in 1798 in St Botolph Bishopsgate, London. In addition to three brothers (Jean Baptiste, Theodore and Harry) and one sister (Mary BARBER who lived in Picardie in 1782), Glaude's Will also disclosed the existence of a hitherto unknown daughter Mary Ann V(b.1782 in Ubbeston Sfk) who died a spinster in Milton next Gravesend, Kent in 1852.
Her brother the aforementioned Rev. James T. VAUTIN was an esteemed member of the Bank of England from 1797-1853, retiring with a life pension in recognition of his 56 years of dedicated service. It is not known (yet) what part of France old Glaude/Claude came from, although it is possible from the spelling he favoured that he came from Flemish areas of France such as Picardie or a Walloon background (now modern Belgium) - but most certainly a dissenter, if not a declared Huguenot.
His son the Reverend was the officiating minister at the Ratcliffe Queen Street Independent Church in Stepney in the 1820s and 1830s where he baptised his own children, which events were also recorded in Dr Williams Library. Descendants of old Glaude have emigrated here to Australia and the US and I would love to hear from anybody concerning this family and the associated surnames.
Dottie!
