The Hori (George) & Amy Shelford Whanau of N.Z.
I am Charlene nee Shelford daughter of Karewa (Colin) Shelford and Raewyn nee Moriarty. I am the oldest grandchild of George(hori) and Amy Shelford from Magakahia (Pakotai), and the last known address of Hori shelford was in Poroti just out side of Whangarei. My grandfather Hori had two wives. I am from the off-spring of the first wife. They had several children: Sons were James (Jim),Tom, Nathan, Karewa(Colin) and Tari (Peter) and daughters: Sarah,Amelia, Dina, Bella, and Rita. and a couple of still born children.
My childhood memories of my Shelford line are somewhat vague. I remember visiting with my Uncle Jim and Aunty Connie Shelford at the family homestead in Pakotai where the orchard was always plentiful with fruits of every kind. How I loved to sit and eat those beatuiful peaches and nectarines, and to think that now I pay to eat them! They had a very special apple that was really different. It had red stripes inside when you ate into it, and it was not shaped quite like an apple but more like a pumpkin with a flat head.I think we use to call it the Awarua apple. I don't see any ever on the market then and today.
My Uncle Jim married Aunty Connie and they had children Eileen,Robyn,Kevin...now I really need help..if there were more my memory has gone blank. Then Uncle Tom married Joy, I know she had two sons prior to her marriage to uncle Tom, Uncle Nathan married Aunty Mavis and Wayne,Dean Karen, and Darryl, sorry, am I still missing one, help me? Uncle Tari married Tui and they had a son Peter.
Now, I know each of my Aunties had children, but their names I do not know. I am so sorry, but that is really why I wanted to get this done so that I can share with my mokos how important theses people are in my life.
I have heard stories how immaculate grandma Amy was with making piupiu skirts and sewing clothes for her children, not just sewing, but also lining them. How's this story...Uncle Jim was competing in a race and won and that allowed him to go on to the next competition which was to be held in Whangarei. It was a real grand sports event. Nana Amy sewed him an outfit made from the old flour bags...the ones that had the word "Champion" written on them. She Cut out his singlet so that the name champion could be seen on it.That really made him happy and want to run faster!
I am, at this point, interested in connecting with my aunties, and cousins to establish a family reunion real soon, cause we are not getting any younger. Please, if you are the siblings of these named people I would like to hear from you. You can email me at charlum10@yahoo.com or call me on my cell phone at 808-366-6083. I live in Hawaii and I am planning a "Surprise"80th birthday for my dad,who is the only living male member from this family line. We are planning for August 14th here in Hawaii. If any of you can make it this way just let me know. I would love to have his sisters,my aunties come as a surprise. You need a break...
I know this is long, but I need to repair the bridges that have kept us apart for all these years.
God bless and somebody please answer/reply and fill us all in.
Love to all.
