Dear Ngaire,
I saw your ADEANE family from NZ on the family tree circles and I have more information for you.
My mother's sister married John Stacey (Stace) ADEANE born 23 Jan 1927 Crocker Street, Grenville, Ballarat Victoria Australia. I have been helping her and her children and grandchildren put a family tree together.
Have sent you a private message with my email.

Thie family fits with this following announcement in the Poverty Bay Herald 3 Sep 1879:
"Marriage
Osborne-Adeane --On Sep 3, at Holy Trinity Church, Gisborne, D'Arcy, Eldest son of John Osborne, of Manchester, England, to Alice Jane, youngest daughter of the Late John Adeane and Sarah Adeane of Auckland. Auckland and Thames papers please copy."
John and Sarah's marriage 2nd quarter of 1846 in Reading. Family appears in 1851 census but not 1861 (after emmigration). Alice Jane appears to have gone to San Francisco in the US by 1900 with her daughter Vivian. Alice Ann is listed in that 1900 US census as born in NZ with parents born in England. This much is fairly solid.
This next is not: Alice Jane may have remarried a John Rustgard and moved to Juneau Alaska by the 1910 census where the only matching data are: approx DOB, birthplace, immigration date, number of children/surviving and first and middle name.
If accurate, Alice would be the first wife of my grandfathers's second wife's first husband!
Good luck.
