Patrick and Mary Taaffe were my grand parents. They had 12 (Not sure) kids in their family and all were prominent in some way in the Kalgoorlie/Boulder area of Western Australia where they had moved from South Australia, South Adelaide I believe. They had apparently arrived there from Northern Ireland during the potato famine and came to Australia to get away from that. When gold was discovered in Kalgoorlie by Paddy Hannan the family moved there. Patrick and Mary had a boarding house in Burt Street Boulder and my mother met my father there because she was a hou8semaid there. The boarding house was on the east end of Burt Street near to the railway subway where the road to the mining leases went underneath the Kalgoorlie/Boulder/Lakewood railway. I remember a few of my aunts and uncles but unfortunately most were known by their nicknames. I would be pleased to receive questions re my side of the family and I hope I can supply adequate answers.

I'm sorry I have taken so long to get to your message. I appreciate the information you have given as the details are exactly as my Mother Delphina Joan Bunter nee Taaffe has spoken about. Her father was Patrick Taaffe and he owned a bakery in Boulder. He drowned when she was a small child. She had a sister Frances she also died at an early age and a brother Earnest Clive Taaffe(Pud). They lived at 68A Clancey St Boulder for many years. Uncle Pud died in 1972 he was quite ill for many years. Mum's mother was Delphina Jane Hutchinson. I do believe that Alice Taaffe is still alive in Kalgoorlie but is not with us most of the time. I THINK I was told she has Alzimers.
It would be great if you could help me with some of the information you have aquired over the many years on your Family.
Thanks again for your reply

Hello Judy

I do remember Aunty Rose and Barney coming to Wilga where I grew up as a child. dad was working on a motor down the well and he became intoxicated from the fumes of the motor and they where there at the time. I never new who Barney was as I was only a small child and to me they where Old people.
But I would dearly love to piece together the Taaffe side of my tree. I do have quite a bit but there is some BIG holes. Thanks must go to Phil for helping me out there. I have spent Hour trying to piece together details that I received from cant think of her name in Perth that Auntie Rose had put together. That was very interesting. Back about 8 years ago I wrote to all the Taaffe cousins in Kalgoorlie/Boulder and never received any info. I wrote to a random taaffe in every state of Australia and lo and behold I received 2 replies 1 in Victoria he has been a gem helped me out with some details and links to Taaffe Families that where related to our side of the Gang. I would be greatly appreciative if you Could by chance contact me again through the above email address. Frances that you mentioned is my Mother Delphina Joan Taaffe Sister, my Aunt.
Lots of Love

Sorry, Patrick Duddy contacted me about 1 mth before he passed away with cancer. He told me he would try and get together some info even if he tried to record it on a recorder and send the info to me but that was never to be. Im very sorry that I never met the poor man nor his Mum Alice. I do believe there is some undercurrent within the family going back before my time. But time must move on, so I thought that it is time we swept all the dirt hiding under the mat out the B.....y Door and move on.

With all my Respect to the Past and the future
