Sarah Ann Eagle was a daughter of Robert EAGLE & Hannah Blanche PUTTENHAM

she married Stephen Lancaster on 5 Nov 1859 in St. Peter`s Church Wellington
Stephen was a son of John LANCASTER & Jane TURNER of Blackburn, Lancashire England
- he arrived in New Zealand in 1857 and owned and farmed a large area in Karori, Wellington, supplying milk to the city
He was responsible for building many Karori houses including 3 of his own in which his family lived. The first was 378 Karori Road, built in 1859. Then at 372 Karori Road, their second home - `Chesney Wold`, built in 1866 was also the second home of author Katherine Mansfield when she was 5 to 10 years old. Her book `Prelude` was written in 1916, 6 years after leaving the house, and was written around her experiences while living there. Stephen`s third house was at 385 Karori Road

Stephen was Karori`s first Mayor - elected in 1891, serving 3 years
He was also:
* a Councillor up until his death
* Chairman of the Hutt County Council
* Chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board and
leading member of the first Wellington St Mary`s Church building committee, serving the vestry for many years.
* Lancaster Street in Karori is named after him

Before St Mary`s was built in 1866 services were held in their home at 378 Karori Road. They had 5 sons, who all eventually settled in the Rangitikei area and 6 daughters

Thomas was a founder member of the Karori Borough Council in 1891 and a foundation trustee of the Karori Methodist church in 1895
