Hi, My Name is Stephanie and my Grandmother is Rangi McGregor nee Peni. These are her parents. I don't know all of her brothers and sisiters names. All I can remember without going hunting in my box is Freda, Manu, Bunny and Archie. I hope this helps.

Hi sorry I taken so long to reply, my partner is the youngest son of Manu, I haven't found alot of info, and there is not anyone around here anymore that really knows anything, it seems like everyone moved away and didn't come back. So far we have found that the father of Iraia Peni Matenga was Peni Te Matenga or Peni Matenga, some of court documents show this, Iraia may have cut the Matenga from his name in the latter stages of his life(possibly due to pakeha not being able to pronounce, as this was common for maori to do back then) as some of his diaries and old land receipts show his full name then eventually just show Iraia Peni, then we gathered the children's surnames just became Peni as they are written in his diaries as

According to the diaries we think Iraia was born 8/8/1892, there is a link online that says there was a race course built next to our marae Poutu, and Peni Matenga was a maori official in 1889, so that was interesting. Alot of people talk about the Peni whanau being very good at sports especially Tennis, badminton and swimming. It would be nice if the family got together or something to catch up and reconnect.

It would be awsome to reconnect. I hear of the Macs n Mcgregor reunions but never heard of a Peni one.
My mum never got told much because my nan didnt really talk to much about stuff. She would always talk about anything and everything of her travels but not much of her family. All she told me was that she was born under a tree next to the railway. My mum has a few things in her belongings that I havent gone through yet. There might be somethings there.
We are staying at kereru on the first weekend of feb and all the remaining family of Rangi will be there. you are more than welcome to come. You prob would already know Zane Mcgregor? He is my first cousin. He is very indepth with the family I know on the mcgregor side so I will ask what he knows of the Peni's.
