Walter Coward and Wilhelmina were my great grandparents. Yes there were many more children Louisa was drowned at 16 months on 26 feb 1873. James drowned falling out of a dingy and he could not swim at 14years in 1890, Adelina born 1885 dies 1917, Hilma born 1883 Whilemina dies 1949 ( Cannot work out if there is any connection between those two names) Anne born 1880, Bernhard born 1878, Henry born 1874 dies 1915,

Bernhard Silvius was my great grandfather so I guess you and I are distant cousins.
I've found a bit more information: Henric was baptised 11 September 1839 in Katarina, Stockholm. His father was (Gustaf) Fredrik Silvius born 26 Jan 1808 and his mother was Sofia Wilhelmina Svedberg born 20 Nov 1815. They were married 26 Oct 1836 in Stockholm. Sofia's parents were Samuel Svedberg and Katarina Karlsdotter. I got this from the LDS website www.familysearch.com

I wonder if you have any information about Mary Ann Berryman (wife of Henric G W Silvius). Bernhard's birth cetificate says she was 30 (this is in 1878), and that she is from Wisconsin, America. I've found an M A Berryman aged 3 years in the 1850 US Census, residence: Mineral Point, Iowa, Wisconsin,(born in England). She would be the right age but difficult to make a definite connection. I thought you may already investigated?

From what I was told, James Berryman is Mary Ann's father, he was a miner. Nanny Berryman married George Morcom who was 13yrs her junior, as a widow.

So now I have a whole new direction to go in - it gets quite addictive doen't it?

Stew, you have said that Hendric is buried in Omaka, do you have the plot numbers? I am going for a trip down that way and would love to photograph it.

The only Silvius recorded on the Omaka database is that of Frederick James Silvius (1866-1944) and he is buried in Picton. They do not have ANY recorded (on the net) Henric, Henrick, Henry or Harry of any surname buried in all of 1904. So unless the family know the plot numbers you may have to enquire at the cemetery

My information came from the Marlborough Historical Society - they also provided the photo I have posted on this site. I have been to Omaka Cemetery but I had no luck finding his grave - the words "needle" and "haystack" come to mind. You could see if there is any more information held by the historical society - their address is PO Box 303, Blenheim. (Well, it was when I wrote to them in May 2000)

Kelly, when you go to Blenheim do try to get out to White's Bay. Part of the telegraph station is still there as a museum. I'm not sure what the opening hours are. This is where Henric was stationed for a time as a telegraph linesman. My great grandfather, Bernhard Silvius was born there and probably some of the other children as well. Its very picturesque as well.

ngairedith Wilhelmina is the elsest daughter b 1869 at Kererangu. she married Walter R Coward in 1888, they had 4 daughters and 2 sons.

The information above for Mary Ann is confusing. The church of nativity in Blenhiem doesn't have a cemetery. and the Mary Ann Silvius who died in 1956 was only 79yo and was buried in Dunedin. It looks like a Mary married Fredrick James in 1913(going by memory)

If our Mary Silvius died 1956 she would have been 109yo!

I have contacted the coucil and they have Henrics death on the right date, but as Henry. but there is no plot details.

I have now found that Mary was still alive in 1911 when her mother died.

OK, I have now got it confirmed from the NZSG Cemetery Fiche that Henry is there and Mary Ann is under the name SYLVIUS (1928!!!!) aged 81yo. THat makes more sense than 109 :)

I thought I would share the information I got today.

*Elsest son, Fredrick james' first wife (Charlotte) died 1913 He remarried Mary Ann Tucker 1917, she died 1956 in Dunedin. Given the years, it is possible here a still children of this marriage still alive.

*Mary Ann Silvius in buried under SYLVIUS. she is at Omaka, old cemetery, block 8 plot 24
*Henric is buried under Henry, at Omaka, Old cemetery, block 9, plot 24
