William Alfred FITZHERBERT was born in London about 1842
- he arrived in Wellington in that year on the schooner ?Lady Lee,? 60 tons, bought and equipped by his father, Sir William Fitzherbert, K.C.M.G., MLC, for the voyage

- he married Fanny STANFORD-WATERHOUSE in 1875

Fanny was the adoptd daughter of the Honourable G. M. WATERHOUSE

William took up farming in Wanganui for a time, in 1872 was appointed Assistant Engineer to the Wellington Provincial Council and in the next few years worked in the Bulls district and towards Wanganui.

He was engaged on the Paekakariki deviation survey.

From 1876?81 he was the Hutt County Engineer then he assisted ht Petone Borough.

He farmed in the Hutt Valley and in Hawke's Bay, helped promote Wellington-Manawatu Railway Company and was Director for ten years.

He became the 1st Mayor of Lower Hutt, where he died on 2nd February 1906

1876 - Herbert George Fitzherbert

1878 - Alice Maud Fitzherbert
- married George William Von Zedlitz (1871-1949) on 4 January 1905, at the Church of St. James, Lower Hutt
- George was born at Hermannswaldau, in German Silesia, the only son of Baron Sigismund von Zedlitz-Neukirk, who was a lieutenant in the Prussian army, and Mary Bethia, n?e Woolf, an Englishwoman. He was educated at Wellington College (England) and at Trinity College, Oxford, where he took honours in Classical Moderations and Literae Humaniores. In the Oxford Union, where he often crossed swords with Hilaire Belloc, Zedlitz was known as a brilliant debater
- He became a University professor
- In addition to his academic duties, Zedlitz acted from 1912 to 1914 as official translator to the New Zealand Government. On the outbreak of war in 1914, Zedlitz volunteered to return to Germany as a Red Cross worker. When this became known there was a revulsion of feeling against him and, notwithstanding the intervention of Sir H. F. D. Bell, the Government introduced legislation to secure his removal from Victoria College
- George died at Lower Hutt on 23 May 1949
- Alice died in 1957 aged 79

- married Fenton Henry Latham in 1905

1889 - Eileen Margurete Fitzherbert
- nothing known

1891 - Wyndham Waterhouse Fitzherbert
- he attended the Wanganui Collegiate School 1905-1907. He left the School for England with his brother Harold Lancelot Fitzherbert in 1907
- he served in WWI as Captain with the Royal Flying Corps, 55 Squadron, 13th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, England Military District
- he was KILLD IN ACTION on 7 July 1917 in Ypres Belgium
- his Memorial is Arras Flying Services Memorial, Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, Pas-de-Calais, France

1893 - Harold Lancelot Fitzherbert
- he attended the Wanganui Collegiate School 1905-1907. He left the School for England with his brother Wyndham Waterhouse Fitzherbert in 1907
- he served in WWI in the Western Desert Campaign as a Lieutenant with the 13th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, England Military District. He obtained a commission in the 16th Battalion of the Sussex Regiment
- he was KILLED IN ACTION on 30 June 1916 in Somme, France
- his Grave Reference: XV.R.36. at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France


The FITZHERBERT DINNER, representative family reunion to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the grant of the old family seat of Norbury, Derbyshire, from the Prior of Tutbury to their common ancestor, William, son of Herbert, in 1125, was held at Claridge's in London on Christmas Eve 1925
