KENNEY of New York and Connecticut; O'HARA of New York and Ireland
My grandfather was Alexander L. KENNEY, b. Dansville, NY in 1880. His father was George B. KENNEY (b. 09/18/1848 in NY, d. 11/02/1881 in NY), mother was Bridget O'HARA (b. abt 1857, NY, d. ? NY; parents b. Ireland)
George's father (my g-g-grandfather) was Alexander KENNEY, (b.07/11/1810 in NY, d.02/25/1880, NY; father born in Connecticut.)
There is a KEENEY family in Hartford, CT from the mid 1700's that has someone named Alexander in every generation. I believe that these two families are connected, but need evidence to prove it. New York State records begin in 1882, so I won't find a death certificate there. I need the name of Alexander's father, who was born in CT to connect the two families. Can anyone help?
The OHARA family arrived in New York in 1847: Parents Arthur and Mary; and children: Ann, Mary, Patrick and James. 4 more children were born after they arrived. The family seems to have dispersed - perhaps Arthur died and the children went to live with relatives. I cannot find them in either the 1850 or 1860 Census. An immigration document for Arthur O'hare might be him, or could belong to someone else. Lawrence O'HARA appears later on - in the 1880 Census. How can I find out if Lawrence and Arthur are the same person? Any ideas?
Livingston County historians have been helpful, but nothing conclusive.
