CLARK, O'LEARY, REID, ARNOLD, MALAHAN, LINACRE

Journal by merich

My ancestor Margaret CLARK came to AUSTRALIA from SLIGO IRELAND as a bounty immigrant aged 22 years on MARCHIONESS OF BUTE in 1842.

She married John ARNOLD at Bathurst Australia and had a family I think. I would like to find more about this family as I am related.

I think she married Thomas MALAHAN at NSW.

She later married John LINACRE and had a family and died 1898 at WHROO Victoria.

Her parents are down as OWEN O'LEARY and SUSAN REID from SLIGO IRELAND. I do not know anything about them.

Has anyone any of these names in their ancestry please.

Merich,

The FamilySearch site has a marriage between Thomas Malahan and Margaret Clark on 8th July 1851 at Bathurst NSW. Indexing Batch No M31033-3, Australia source film No M31033-3.

In the Empire newspaper Thursday 30th January 1851 there is an artilce relating to a black snake that was threatening a Mrs Miller of Bowenfels being killed by a Mr Thomas Malahan. Bowenfels is located on the outskirts of Lithgow NSW.

Hello Janilye,

Thanks very much for your information. I have also found a birth for Mary Arnold Arnold born 5th Jan 1845 to John Arnold & Margaret Clarke at Bathurst NSW.
In FamilySearch.org I found in Historical Records the marriage of
1. Margaret Clarke 1st Oct 1845 Bathurst NSW to John Arnold
2. Margaret Clarke 8th July 1851 Bathurst NSW to Thomas Malahan. I do not know if there was a family.
I know she was my GG grandfathers wife or such as John Linacre and Margaret had a daughter Margaret in NSW that died also children born in Victoria I think named Rosetta, Louisa and a son John who we cannot track down either.

Kind Regards

Merich.

There is a mention of a Margaret Malahan in the 6th June 1883 NSW Police Gazette.

In Sydney there was a warrant issued by for the arrest of a Charles Richards (23) of Liverpool for deserting his illegitimate child. The complainant was a Margaret Malahan on 140 Gloucester Street.

Thanks Gerry, I shouldn't have missed that marriage, I was looking for a Margaret Arnold. The marriage to Malahan must have been in the Catholic church who didn't recognise other marriages. The earliest death of a John Arnold I could find was 1853 (age 40)and that occurred in Tamworth and the others were later. I found several Malahan's in Victoria and lots of Linacre's.

DEATHS nsw.bd&m 1850-1870
V18531194 39B/1853 ARNOLD JOHN AGE 40 (this one was Tamworth)
755/1866 ARNOLD JOHN AGE 46 YEARS DIED SYDNEY SYDNEY
3954/1859 ARNOLD JOHN AGE 63 YEARS DIED MOLONG MOLONG
