Information especially old photographs on Manhires of Cornwall
My name is Christine Andersen.I was born a MANHIRE. My Father was Frank MANHIRE , his Father was Maddren MANHIRE, his father was Richard Williams MANHIRE (all born in Australia) and his father was Richard MANHIRE from Kea in Cornwall.
Richard's parents were John MANHIRE and Grace HENWOOD. Richard and his sister Jane Henwood MANHIRE travelled to Australia aboard the ship "Marion" in 1849 , and Richard married Mary WILLIAMS in Australia.
Mary WILLIAMS was born in Lelant in Cornwall. Jane Henwood MANHIRE married Joseph WAGSTAFF in Australia.
Information on John MANHIRE and Grace HENWOOD has proved to be particularly elusive to find when going through records, but they both appear to have been born around 1787 and were married in 1816 in Kea.
It would appear that Richard's grandparents(John MANHIRE's parents) might have been John MANHIRE and Jane SCOBLE who married in Kea, Cornwall in 1784 , but I have not proven this conclusively yet and have not been able to find out who the parents of John MANHIRE (born 1764 or thereabouts) and Jane SCOBLE were. If anyone has this information , I would be eternally grateful for it.
I have been doing extensive research into the MANHIRE families in Cornwall and have been particularly interested in which family members emigrated to New Zealand, Canada and America, whether there was any link to my branch of the family etc. This research is ongoing.
I have discovered , as many other researchers would have , that the MANHIRE name had many variations. MANNEAR,MINHIRE,MENHIRE,MINEAR,MENNEAR,MENHEER,MYNHEER amongst a few of them. Mis-spellings were common , with the Parish priest spelling the name phonetically and I have found different spellings even amongst the same family. This has made research difficult , as I was often left wondering if this Mannear,Menhire etc was really a MANHIRE ,particulary since some of the original spellings remain to this day.
I have been attempting to trace all different branches , regardless of spelling to try and find a common ancestry. I keep on thinking that someone , somewhere , particulary back in Cornwall must have photographs of or useful information about their ancestors , and if anyone has - whether they are MENNEAR , MANHIRE , MANEAR or other variation , I would be very grateful to receive them , so that I can add faces to the names of people in my research.
The image I have provided is that of Richard Manhire of Cornwall who emigrated to Australia in 1849 and his wife Mary Williams.

I have a connection with Manhire family. My uncles father was Bennett Yeoman Manhire 1884 - 1944. He married Ruby Emma blitz. His father was Joseph Manhire 1846 - 1911. He married Mary Jane Williams.
fantastic to hear from you. I am aware of Joseph Manhire as well as Bennett Yeoman Manhire. Since originally writing my post , I have done quite a lot of research. I have Joseph's parents as William Manhire and Mary Yeoman and Williams Father and mother as Richard Manhire and Frances Thomazine Benny. I am particularly interested in obtaining old photographs of the Manhire family. Should you be able to help with any photos of Bennett or Joseph or other members of the family , that would be wonderful , but any information is also particularly helpful and if I have any information that could help you , feel free to ask. My email address is chris@deepcreekwines.com.au
I live in South Australia. I understand that Joseph lived in Victora as did Bennett.
