M ALF DEEBLE

I am researching the name M Alf Deeble, possibly from the Plymouth area.
I have an oil painting of two lions, signed by M Deeble, 1906. On the back of the frame, the name M Alf Deeble, Plymouth is handwritten.
Can anyone help me find out about M Alf Deeble please?
I am aware an 'Alf Deeble' was drowned when the Titanic went down.
Any connection?

Harriet DEEBLE Wife age 47 born: Devon Plympton.
Ellen DEEBLE Daughter age 24 Tailoress (Employee)born:Plympton.
Emma DEEBLE Daughter age 23 Outfitter & Tailor Shopwoman (Employee) born:Devon Plympton.
Florence DEEBLE Daughter age 22 School Teacher born:Devon Plympton.
Alfred DEEBLE Son age 18 Tailor (Employee) born:Devon Plympton.
Alice DEEBLE Daughter age 10 Scholar born:Devon Plympton.
This Alfred would have been born approx 1873 - would that fit at all?

As mentioned in my journal, I have a painting signed M Deeble, 1906; on the back of the frame 'Mr (or M) Alf Deeble, Plymouth', is handwritten across the top of the frame, perhaps by the frame-maker, or by the artist himself. Thus my reason for research on the name DEEBLE.
During my research on the internet, I found out there was an Alf Deeble, a member of the Titanic crew who drowned, aged 29, (born London) which would make his birth-year approx 1883. If the painting is by an artist in Plymouth, then this would definitely rule out the 'Titanic Alf Deeble', by 10 years!
elsiemary on 2011-04-12 17:15:48I have since looked at the 1911 Census and note there is an Alf Deeble living at The Ridgeway, Plympton, aged 37, married for 5 years with one child (at that time. Are there any following census where I can check on later family members?
I would like to know if any existing family members were aware of this painting, or whether he did other paintings.

It is also possible that Alf left the family home to work for someone else? So he might have become a frame maker, if he wasn't the artist, perhaps? Good luck.

M. Deeble is definitely the artist - he signed M. Deeble, 1906 on the front bottom left of the painting. The other writing (either Mr or M Alf Deeble, Plymouth) is written on the reverse of the frame which may have been written by the frame-maker - or, indeed, written by the artist himself. The painting is done in oil of two lions, copied from an original by Sir Edwin Landseer around 1860-1880 - who designed the lions at the foot of Nelson's column. This information was given to me by an expert in paintings. However, M Deeble is not a listed artist. Shortly after coming into possession of the painting, I watched a BBC programme in September 2010 called 'Put your money where your mouth is' and on the background of the auctioneers an identical painting was hanging on the wall, which made my research a little more interesting!
