Everett of Hay
I am the great grandson of George and Emelia Everett (nee Radfer) who is believed to have been born in Koslin Prussia (now Poland) and migrated to Tasmania with her parents and siblings on the ship Victoria. Two years later she moved to Echuca where she married George Everett in Echuca and they had their first children at Torrumbarry Victoria. Emilia and George had a number of children namely Louisa, Walter Stanley, George Radfer, Richard Henry (my grandfather), Bertha, Alina J, Joseph Silverton, Charles and John. George R was born in Hillston NSW,Joseph in Carrathool NSW and the remainder believed to be in the Hay NSW district. It is also believed that some of the family lived in Cooronbong near Morrisett NSW and they were members of the Seventh Day Adventist Congregation. It is also believed that some of the children lived in the Wauchope/Port Macquarie area. Richard Henry Everett married Jane Elizabeth Josephine Pocock in Hay and had the following children, Minnie Josephine (m F Westwood), Dulsie Amelia Hope (m Arthur Stevens), Eunice Mary Ann Peace (m Basil Harvie), Florence Ruby (m H Miller), Richard Henry (m E Gizzard ), Lesley (m E Snow), Welbourne, Valerie Ada Lorraine (m L McLean), Valma Faith (m Allan Stevens) my parents, Herbert Munro O'Connor(m J), Athol, Maxwell (m N Williams)
It is believed that that Emilia/Emelia/Amelia was the second oldest and she had a sister older Bertha Fredericka who married Peter Voss. Emilia's parents were John and Johanna Radfer and according to Emilia/Amelia's marriage and naturalisation certificates her mother's maiden name was Johanna Fehlberg.
It is believed that George Everett was English, born in Liverpool (England) to Miles Everett and Rose Ann Blunt. There is also spectulation that there is some Spanish influence in this side of the family. Where Emilia first met George (?Echuca) is not known and when George arrived in Australia - how - when- where -why is also not known. Did Miles and Rose emmigrate to Australia?..
Any information would be welcome.

Hello Allan,
Emelia's surname was Radfer. According to her death certificate (and informant son Joseph) her father was John Radfer and mother Johanna Fehlberg. Emelia married George Thomas Everett at Echuca on 30 June 1875.
I have been looking for a Voss connection but cannot find one.
If you contact me directly on rod@farm263.com I can attach a GEDCOM file which can be inserted into most genealogy programs. I use Legacy which has a free version.

The birth for the children apart from John are on the free online NSW site
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au
if you get a copy of your grandfathers birth certificate it will verify his mothers name.
Johns death is listed in 1890 Hay, Frederick in 1942 Hay and your Grandfather Richard as well.
I did notice that the name on your grandfathers death in 1970 in Griffith is listed as Amelia Voss Everett?? is this where you got the VOSS conection from.
The death information is only what the person registering it knows, it is not always fact, as I have found out through my own experience searching information.
Might have found that VOSS connection.
Tasmanian Archives have a look here

The following is from ancestry.com
listed under Australian Cemetery Index 1808-2007
John Radfer b1823 Germany d 19 May 1899 aged 76 Tasmania
Johanna Radfer b1820 d 29 April 1879 aged 59 Tasmania
there is a notation on the index
" see Peter Henry VOSS Collinsvale Methodist - Glenorchy - Hobart"
It appears that Peter Henry (Wasson) Voss b1843 d 1888 Tasmania
married in 1873 Tasmania
Bertha Fredrika Radfer b1850 Germany d1899 Hobart Tasmania
so Johanna was Peter's sister in law not his sister. John Radfer was Bertha's brother.
There is other information on the Tasmanian site for more possible relatives. You can also try the online newspapers for the Hobart Mercury.

Happy hunting
Hi,
The earliest I can see a Gustav Voss in Tasmania is in the 19804 Directory as follows.
The Tasmania PO Directory 1904 (Wise)has the following for Voss.
Voss D. W. farmer, Franklin North
Voss George, fruit grower, Huonville
Voss Gustav H. R. farmer, Bismarck
Voss Jno. fruit grwr. Huonville
Voss Wm. C. fruit grwr. Huonville.
A Gustav Voss also appears on Victorian records between 1878 and 1891 wonder if its the same Gustav!
A samuel Voss and his wife Sarah Ann Ross (nee Wright) arrived in Hobart in the early 1850s then settled at the Huon.
Regards
Gerry
My mother, Valerie Ada Lorraine McLean (nee Everett) would have registered her father's death (Richard Henry Everett) in 1970. She always believed his mother's (Emelia) name was Voss but she was wrong. Richard's birth certificate shows it correctly as Radfer. Emelia was born in 1851 in Kosliss, Prussia, according to Richard's birth certificate which she probably registered. Bertha Fredrika must be her older sister. The John and Johanna Radfer mentioned above were probably their parents.
Best wishes,
Rod
I just noticed that Richard's father was the informant on the birth certificate. I hope he knew where his wife was born :-)

I don't know if you are interested but the Richard Henry Everett who married Gizzard is my grandfather. My dad, Richard Henry Everett was his only child as far as I know. My name is Richard Henry Everett and I have a brother and three sisters.
Richard Henry, your grandfather was my mother's brother. Your father is my first cousin making you my second cousin. I have met your dad and mother Judy at possibly you at Cabramatta (my Auntie Eunice and Uncle Bas's house).
Hello Richard,
Your dad is one of my numerous first cousins. I also did not know until about 10 days ago that he has a younger brother, Roy, and an older sister, Thelma, in other words, your uncle and aunt. This came from a friend of Roy and his wife. They live in Queensland.
I have been trying to find your father to ask whether he would like to contact Roy. According to his friend, Roy has been living isolated from family, including his own daughter who has recently made contact. Roy is taking a little time to come to grips with having family that he had lost contact with. As yet I know only that he lives in a Qld town and I have an email address for his friend. Perhaps you can contact me at rod@farm263.com or ask your father to do that so that we can all do a bit of re-uniting. By the way, your grandmother's name was Eva Izzard.
Best wishes

Wow Rod. I had no idea dad has a brother or sister. Unfortunately dad died on 31st may 2007. I would like at some time to meet them should they so wish. Astevens. I remember aunty une and uncle bas. They lived in gidgee street. My grandmother (mum's (Judy's) side) lived at the top of the same street. I currently reside in Maitland NSW. Mum (Judy) lives in Kendall, near port macquarie. I will email you rod. My email is teebone@hotmail.com.au. I am a little confused. Was Roy and Thelma of a different father? My understanding is that dad was placed in the care of legacy upon the death of his father in Laos which would indicate Roy was of a different father but how does Thelma fit in?
Hi Richard,
My name is sharene I am Roy's friend. I am sorry to hear that your dad passed away. I will contact you at your hotmail address.
