The Apted "Fiji" Connection
I have always been curious of the genealogical connection between my family tree and the Apted
family in Fiji, who were well-known for their sporting achievements (Harry and Billy - cricket and
their sisters for hockey). I have now discovered that it was probably through a John Apted who was
born in Croydon, England on 18th January 1835. It appears he may have emigrated to Australia and
had a family there. His son named William Walsh Apted was born in Walgett, New South Wales,
Australia in the late 1800s. William Walsh Apted grew up there but went to work in Fiji where he
married and raised the sporting family I have mentioned.
As a sideline William Walsh Apted fathered a son out of wedlock in Levuka while livng in Fiji.
That son was given the name William Apted Bryson who was born in 1921. He grew up and worked in
Fiji until he emigrated to New zealand where he married a Lillian Jaggard. He later took New
Zealand citizenship and duly passed away in Napier, New Zealand.
If any body can shed some further light on this little bit of history I wold be most appreciative.,

Hi David, I am the great grandson of William Walsh Apted as my grandfather is Bill Apted. We are still in Fiji and William Apted had 2 daughters and 3 sons. Harry had past away a few years ago and so had his sister. His other sister is located in New Zealand and most of their grandchildren are in Australia, New Zealand or Fiji. I hope this helped. Have a lovely day
