You didn't give us much to go on......

Would this be the marriage of your Samuel to Sarah?

From familysearch:
Marriage: SARAH MOORE on 09 JAN 1817 at Cranbrook, Kent, England.

maybe, they had a son George Relph and parents Samuel and Sarah Relph. George died in 1921 in NSW, Australia. I do not know if Samuel came to Australia.

Do you know where George RELPH was born?

How old was George when he died, who was the informant of the death, might give some clues to other family members.

Do you know if George RELPH was married

by john1936 on 2011-06-13 07:07:53

All I know he was born in Kent, UK, many variables, I have been looking for over 10 years. Below is from the BDM in NSW Australia
Death 1921 Relph Mother Sarah Father Samuel at Ashfield, that was before I was born. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/15964700?searchTerm=Relph this is a link for my Great Grandfather

MR. GEORGE RELPH.

One of the early colonists of New South
Wales Mr George Relph who for many years
practised in business as a law stationer in
Sydney, died at his residence, Eltham, Summer
Hill, on Friday last, in his 80th year. He
was well known among the business men of
this city. He leaves a widow, one son, andFix this text
three daughters, one of whom is married to
Mr Walter Cowlishaw, of Gosford, and another

to Mr J A Elliott, of Strathfield. I think George was married to Hypatia Elizabeth Relph daughter of a Clergyman in Berry NSW, daughter of the Rev John Elkin doesn't help us in Kent though, many thanks

How do you know that George was born in Kent?

How do you know it's the right George Relph, have any paper work or certificates to link your relative to George, either birth or marriage?

I found this marriage in Queensland

George Relph to Margaret Forbes Gibson 1866

If you order a copy and it should give you more information on both their fathers at least.

They also had a son George Frederick Gibson Relph born Dec 1867 and died March 1868 Queensland

you will find the information for both on this site

https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/mainMenuSubmit.m?main_menu=IndexSearch

There is a Public tree on ancestry that has Frances Hilda b1876 Newtown, married to Walter Cowlishaw 1913, and has her parents listed as George and Margaret Forbes nee Gibson with Georges parents as Samuel Relph and Caroline.

You will need to investigate this further - try and follow back from yourself, verifying all details with certificates, preferably birth, baptism or marriage as death is only what the informant knows and may or may not be correct.

Good hunting

I found a reference for the RELPH ELKIN marriage

It's on NSW BMD
Hypatia Elizabeth ELKIN to Arthur William RELPH 1890.

Arthur is George & Margaret's son. You will also find the marriages for Cowlishaw and Elliott and details for the other children as well.

I'm not a relation, but I have a stack of Relph photographs I found in a junk shop, many of them about the people mentioned in this thread. I've put up a rudimentary tree on ancestry, and will populate it with the photos over the next month or so. I do know that George married Margaret Forbes Gibson, and that her sister, Frances (or Francis) Cleave Gibson stayed in England and married a clergyman called Frederick Lionel Streeten. I know that there were "Relph cousins" in London of the surname "George". I have a picture of their townhouse, and a photograph of Edgar Charles William George aged 6 taken in 1912, and a coupe of others in that family. Somehow the Cleave family is connected as I have a very old photo of William Cornish Cleave, and two of his kids, Constance and Benjamin - they are on ancestry, but not connected to the Relphs (as yet). Most of the other photos are Australian, and taken late 19th and early 20th centuries. Anyway, as I say, I have put up "The Relph Family Tree" on ancestry, should you want to take a look.
