Thomas Smith (1782-1863) and other Smiths from Hull, England
I am researching the family of the famous statistician Karl Pearson. His mother, Fanny Smith, came from Hull.
It is said that her father was Thomas Smith (1782-1863) who "After sinking his father's ship he left Hull and came to London as a Thames pilot." (UCL archives)
I believe that Fanny was from Sculcoates and may have married William Pearson there c. 1855.
Clearly Smith is not the easiest name to trace - can anyone advise please how best to trace details of Thomas Smith and his family?
Thanks

William Pearson (age 30) married Fanny Smith (age 26) in Stepney 29th December 1853. William's father is Thomas, shown as a Yeoman. Fanny's father is also a Thomas, recorded as a Shipowner.
IGI show a Fanny Smith christened at Sculcoates 30th May 1827.
My interest also arises from Karl Pearson's statistical work, but my wife also has Smith ancestry from Sculcoates.
Thanks - I knew some of that, but where you say
"William's father is .. shown as a Yeoman. Fanny's father is ... recorded as a Shipowner.", which source are you referring to?
Can we discuss further by email please? I am
