My family goes back to Ipswich Mass in the 1600s. Lt William Butler first shows up in Ipswich 1n 1668 working for a William Cogswell. He died

in 1730 . Cannot find a place or origin for him or who his father was. He signed his will Jr so we presume that there had been a William Senior but there is no record of him in Ipswich. My only clue is a Rootsweb posting that says a William Butler and Mrs William Butler born in 1625 in England. Came to Northampton VA IN 1653 and had 4 children one was a William.Cannot find any more info about this William. Sorry to ramble but do you have any suggestions to search the Virginia Records and find out more?
