Alexander ("Sandie" or "Sandy") DOCHERTY born 24 May 1837 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Journal by BigDocD

I'm researching my G-GPa Alexander ("Sandie" or "Sandy") DOCHERTY who was born 24 May 1837 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. Parents: William DOCHERTY and Agnes/Agness HAMPSIE/HAMPSEY. According to the 1901 Canada Census he emigrated from Scotland to Canada Abt 1858-9.

He's present on the 1851 Scotland Census with his Mother Agness and a younger brother William, but his Father does not seem to be present on that census, although he is on the 1841 and 1861 Scotland Censi with Agness alone and same address.

Ontario, Canada, Registrations of Marriages, Reel MS932. Archives of Ontario, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (Division Registrar Vital Statistics), Birth date: Abt 1836, Birth place: Rutherington (mis-spelling - says Rutherglen on gravestones), Scotland, Marriage Date: 29 May 1860, Marriage Place: Toronto, Residence Place: Markham Township. Married to Catherine McKillop MCKECKNIE/MCEACHNIE/MCKECKNEY. She was born 18 Feb 1837 in Argyleshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. Parents: Neil and Margaret MCKECKNIE/MCEACHNIE/MCKECKNEY (Mother's maiden surname unknown, but could have been the McKILLOP associated with Catherine). According to the 1901 Canada Census she also emigrated from Scotland to Canada Abt 1858-9. It's unknown whether they emigrated together or met after they each arrived in Canada.

I haven't been able to find anymore information on either of them, except they lived on a farm in Agincourt, Markham/Scarborough Township, York County, Ontario, Canada and are both buried at the Knox Cemetery (behind Knox United/formerly Presbyterian Church) at Sheppard/Warden Avenues in Greater Toronto area.

I have a manuscript written by my Uncle Donald DOHERTY about his and my Dad's and their sibs young lives which were lived partially at the farm.

Sorry, I should also include that I have all the Canada Census data from 1861 on as well, but I won't post it here.
