I have traced my family info back to John Broom who settled in the Effingham Illinois area. There are two on-line books about Effingham's history with good information about John and his brother Samuel.I believe I found these on archives.com. John is said to have been born in on the Boiling Fork of the Elk River. His dad's name is given as Miles Broom. Others say Miles was born in North Carolina. I find no records other than a will probated in Tennessee, service in the War of 1812, and a 1790 census record, also in Tennessee.

Now I am trying to access Miles from the other direction and have been reading "Broom" genealogy records from Delaware, PA, MD, and NC with few results - lots of odd info, however. I'd be interested in hearing progress that others have made with discovering Miles Broom.
