Clarke family of Newcastle upon Tyne

Question by patk

I'm researching the family of John Clarke (born c. 1820 at Newcastle). His father, also John Clarke (1793-1875) was a wealthy shipowner, about whom I know nothing, save his dates and the fact that he left a great deal of money to his grandchildren, John Clarke [again!] and Elizabeth Hall Clarke. This last fact suggests that Elizabeth's father died prior to 1875 since he wasn't mentioned in the Will.

Elizabeth's father married Jane Hall Cooper on 11 Apr 1852 at St. Andrews Newcastle -- accounting for Elizabeth's middle name. Jane herself died 04 May 1855 at Chimney Mills in the sub district of St. Andrews Newcastle. I strongly suspect that Jane died in childbirth since her date of death is in the same quarter as the birth of her son John.

Any help with the family would be much appreciated.
