Looking for Mary Ann MARZOL of Lismore NSW

Query by Jagged

I am looking for stories on the life and times of Mary Ann MARZOL.
Mary was born in Australia in 1872 to John MARZOL and Christina GRIESINGER in Rocky Mouth, Richmond River NSW....now known as Woodburn.
She was christened Christina after her mother, but was always called Mary.
Her first two children died young.
Her third child Alfred was given away.
She then married Walter GOODSELL in 1901 and they had 7 children.
Mary died in 1923.

Does anyone know my Mary?

I'm not related, but I remembered seeing the name MARZOL before one time when I was perusing the Monaro Pioneers website. Click on 'Search the Database' and it will take you to a rootsweb worldconnect page, I just checked and there are about 10 MARZOL names there, but can't give you more information as the database is currently being updated.

The best tip I can give you is to contact local family historical societies/groups where your ancestors lived as details on their lives may already be held in their archives.

Best wishes from Qld.

A trawl through Trove - National Library of Australia - digitised newspapers of Australia reveals at least 233 records for MAZOL.

Hello allycat
This is not the first time you have offered me help! Thank you.
The Marzol family members mentioned on the Monaro Pioneers website are connected to my family about, with our common ancestor being Franz Carl MARZOL (MARZOHL) 1783-1847 born in Switzerland. The Yass/Tumut area Marzol's are descended from his oldest son Joseph Martin 1817-1877, and my family descend from his third son Johann Baptist 1823-1897. They both came to Australia in the mid 1800's and went in different directions.
Mary Marzol is my ggrandmother, and a very interesting character to say the least. I have searched the Trove website many times, and have unearthed plenty of treasures.
I will now track down the Lismore local family historical group as you suggested.
Thanks again

Hi jagged,
I am a Marzol and have recently started researching my family tree. I'm trying to find my first descendent that emigrated from Switzerland. I was told that there were two brothers and they were carpenters. Could you tell me whether Joseph Martin and/or Johann Baptist were carpenters? My next move is to check out the Monaro Pioneers website...looking forward to discovering some interesting stories, as you have.

Hello AMarz
How nice to meet another Marzol researcher!
Unfortunately I do not know if Joseph of Johann were carpenters....but it is not impossible.
Joseph Martin came out in 1855 settled in southern NSW and you will find his descendants on the Monaro Pioneer website.
Johann Baptist came out in 1854 and settled in northen NSW.
Their younger brother Franz Joseph came out in 1865 and settled in northen NSW, but had no children that I am aware of.
Which brother do you belong to? Joseph or Johann? (I'm guessing Joseph)

Hello jagged,

Hi Neville
You found me! The story of Alfred's adoption comes from Alfred himself. His mother Mary Marzol first gave Alfred to her Uncle Jacob Griesinger to look after when he was about 3. Soon after, Uncle Jacob organised for Mr and Mrs Dean to take the boy on a permanent basis, which they did. There was no formal adoption. Everyone knew where everyone was.
