Sometime before 1750, a young Welshman with a love of horses moved to Ireland to become a groomsman for a wealthy landed Englishman,Lord Tapley. As time passed, the groomsman, one Joseph Garnes, caught the eye of the Lord's daughter, Lady Sara. Accounts vary, but whatever account is true, Joseph and Sara find themselves bound for Virginia, in what would later become Jackson County West Virginia. Apparently they were slaveholders and owned a modest estate

lindsidelass on 2011-11-22 14:08:18Have you checked rootsweb.com? Plug into their homepage(it is free), scroll down to World Connect, fill in the Garnes name and begin looking. There are over 2000 entries(albiet many that will turn out to be duplicates)and your Joseph and Sarah just may be there. I found many of my different family lines had information there. Also, the County Clerk of Jackson County may be able to look up something for you in deed records or be able to put you in touch with a local historian who is willing to do lookups.
