I have received info that he in fact died 9 June 1903 cause of death: verdict by jury and buried in Fairfax cemetery, Milton, Otago.

Could you please tell me where your info came from? I'm trying to work out the facts here as I am a relative.
Thanks

If you are American
06-09-1903 is June 9th 1903

Janilye is correct.

Event dates were sometimes recorded by Month, Day, Year,
and not by Day, Month, Year.

South Australia is the same and event dates were recorded by Month, Day, Year, and not by Day, Month, Year.

This does confused people when searching the records for an event date, and may explain why different family trees have different event dates.

You need to beware of how dates were recorded in your country of search when searching the records.

Cheers ...
