Looking for Lester in Melbourne

I am researching the lester and harris families in Melbourne. I have run into a brickwall on the Harris side of the the family which is the Harris name. I can find no information or knowledge of my mother's birth details. I cannot find any record of her birth. Her name was Doris and she was supposedly born on the 6 October 1909 in Carlton, Victoria. If anyone can assist can please contact me as any small piece of information is better than no information.

Where did the birth date 06 October 1909 come from?

Thank you for contacting me but your question leads to my problem. I do not know her biological parents names. She was raised as a Harris and her marriage certificate states her maiden name as Harris.I believe she was adopted into the family but I also believe that she was the child of someone in the family and as happened a lot during the early part of the century she was raised by someone in the family circle. She also grew up with another girl who I had thought to be her sister and she is also adopted. The last person that I thought that could help me refused to admit any knowledge and has since passed on. It is quite a chilling wake up call to find that your mother is not really who you thought she was and especially when I was 61 years old when I found out.I have tried jigsaw and they could not find any leads so I am smashing into brick walls wherever I go. If you have any suggestions I will certainly take them on board.

My husband is in the same situation as you , discovering his mother was not the person he thought she was when she died in 1995.Her name was Mabel Gwendolyn LESTER was born at Crown St Women's Hospital,Sydney in 1915, her mother, who was 18 , at the time,from near Junee,NSW,was Phyllis Gwendolyn Lester .We have a photograph of a young man named Micheal Lester in WW1 army uniform taken in Orange NSW . Mabel was raised by the family Prizibilla in Victoria /NSW then bought to South Australia when she was 8. As you have LESTER in your family tree I am looking for a possible connection. I have searched Ancestry.com. ,Births Death's & Marriages in NSW and her folio at the holspital where she was born has gone missing.!Hitting the brick walls is not fun.! My husband was 6o when his mother died He is now 77 abd the lack of knowledge saddens him.
