When our grandfather came home from the Civil war he couldn't find his family in Portsmouth, Ohio. BUT in 1870 his sister was listed on the census as helping his first wife, Margaret Nebergall(she died in 1883).
This means that somewhere along the line, he found his family again or at least one of his sisters.
