ELDRIDGE: Lewis Henry and Mary Black

Query by Bawden4

Lewis Henry was born in 1842 (no date) in Davenport, Scott, Iowa.

In the 1850 Iowa federal census for Scott County, city of Davenport, Lewis ELDRIDGE, age 8, is listed as living in the home of Asa PRESCOTT. Asa was a teacher from New Hampshire who began one of the early schools in Davenport. Lewis boarded with the PRESCOTT family while he was attending their school.

In the Daily Davenport Democrat newspaper, 27 Aug 1867 announced the marriage of Lewis Henry ELDRIDGE of Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee to Miss Mary Lucretia BLACK of Davenport. Apparently the couple returned to Tennessee after their marriage. They are not found in Davenport city directories.

Records show that his parents were William and Lavinia Van Horn Eldridge.

Lewis and Mary had six children. Lewis and Mary lived a number of years in Emporia, Florida. Mary died December 31, 1889 in DeLand, Florida. Lewis married Leila Pointer in 1891. They had two daughters.

Lewis died Sept. 14 1913 in Jefferson, Kentucky.

The Lewis Henry Eldridge who married Mary Lucretia Black was my great grandfather. My records show that his parents were William Eldridge and Lavinia Van Horn.

Lewis and Mary had six children, one of which was my grandmother, Hester. Lewis and Mary lived a number of years in Emporia, Florida. Mary died December 31, 1889 in DeLand, Florida. Lewis married Leila Pointer in 1891. They had two daughters.

Lewis died Sept. 14 1913 in Jefferson, Kentucky.

You are awesome for responding.
Where is your g-grandfather buried? Is he in Find-a-Grave?

My timetable is this:
Lavinia died and William sent Lewis to live with uncle Duncan and Duncan's wife Rebecca Lippincott of the publishing line.

Rebecca died and Lewis was placed with the Prescotts.

Your history continues from here. But you sure helped me.
