there was a Gideon Frederick de Joux (1833-1901) in North Invercargill in at least 1888

Gideon was born in Saint Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands on 28 March 1833
- 1 of 9 children of Reverend Jean Gideon Rembalt De La Chapplle de JOUX (1797-1873) of Geneve, Switzerland and Anne Selina Macartney JOHNSON (1804-1888) of Liverpool, England who married in 1822 in Isle of Man


Gideon founded the de Joux family in New Zealand, arriving prior to 1860


he married Margaret LAMBERT (1840-1928) (of Dollar, Clackmannanshire, Scotland), on 16 July 1860 in Invercargill

they had 12 children

Gideon died 17 August 1901 age 68 in Invercargill
Margaret died 27 August 1928 aged 88 in Invercargill
- they are buried together Eastern cemetery, Invercargill
