- my additions will be obvious -
An evening wedding solemnised recently (11 Dec 1928) at the Newtown Congregational Church, Wellington, was that of Miss Eva J. NETTLETON (Eva Jane 1905-1985), only daughter of the late Mr C. W. (Charles Willie NETTLETON 1879-1917) and Mrs NETTLETON (Eva nee HIGGINBOTTOM 1881-1941, both from Lancaster, England), Karaka Bay, to Mr William Stanley JANES (1903-1977), eldest som of Mr and Mrs W. D. JANES (William David JANES (born 1874 at sea on the "Wennington") & Esther Jane FREEMAN born 1874 in Christchurch).
The service was choral, and the Rev W. M. HOLLAND was the officiating minister.
The bride was escorted by her uncle, Mr P. HIGGINBOTTOM, Wanganui, and wore a dainty gown of crepe satin, with side panels of silk lace cut in petal shapes, edged round with narrow frills of satin and girdled round the waist by georgette and silver rosebud trimming. Her embroidered veil was worn with a head-dress of orange blossoms, and she carried a shower bouquet of cream with touches of pale pink, comprised of roses, carnations, spirea, and maidenhair fern.
The chief bridesmaid, Miss Gwen HIGGINBOTTOM (Wanganui), was in heliotrope crepe de chine and georgette, and carried a lovely bouquet of sweet peas, fairy sultans, thalietrum, and maidenhair fern. She also wore a gold armlet, the gift of the bridegroom.
The second briesmaid, Miss Joyce JANES, was in apricot crepe de chine. Her gift had been a handsome manicure set. The flower girl, little Patricia GRAFF, had a dainty frilled dress of powder blue crepe de chine, with posy of flowers to tone, and she also wore her gift, a gold bangle.
Mr Wildred LEWIS was bestman, with Mr Robert GREY as groomsman.
The reception was held in the school hall, adjoining, about 90 guests being present. The bride's mother (wearing a dress of black satin with touches of mauve and black hat, carrying a posy to tone) received her guests in the entrance hall, and was accompanied by the bridegroom's mother, who wore a navy crepe de chine dress with fawn trimmings and fawn hat. Her posy was in autumn tints.
All decorations and flowers in the hall toned with the bridesmaids' dresses.
The bride's travelling dress was of repp in a new shade of fawn. She wore a hat to match, also a fox fur, the gift of the bridegroom, her gift to the bridegroom being a gold signet ring.
